Improvement Advisor Jackie Conrad MBA, BS, RN, RCC™ led a Safety Session 2020 for the Midwest Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS) focusing on the prevention of hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPI). Despite improvement efforts pressure injuries continue to occur, taking the lives of nearly 60,000 Americans each year, a number greater than deaths from opioids.

Skin experts, risk managers, and nursing leaders gathered in Naperville and Springfield, Illinois where the workshop was simulcast while numerous participants participated remotely through the webinar platform, chat and phone. Best practices in keeping the focus on prevention were shared targeting critical care, emergency departments and the perioperative area.
