While facilitating the Tennessee Hospital Association Infection Prevention Bootcamp on February 13th and 14th in Brentwood, Tennessee, Barb DeBaun, RN, MSN, CIC, Cynosure Health Improvement Advisor, provided information and inspiration to Infection Preventionists (IPs) who were seeking practical and innovative approaches to reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAI). This interactive and engaging two-day session, was designed to enhance foundational knowledge and creative approaches to infection prevention. This course was geared toward IPs who have less than five years of experience in the infection prevention field. Practitioners who have more experience were welcomed to attend the workshop to be refreshed and recharged and for others to learn from.

 

At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants were able to:

  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of the Infection Preventionist
  • Describe key components and utility of an Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA)
  • Discuss the relationship between laboratory stewardship and quality patient outcomes
  • Describe innovative approaches to reducing healthcare-associated infections
  • Describe how to interpret and display HAI data and how it is utilized for public reporting
  • Discuss strategies for maintaining a safe environment during construction and renovation
  • Discuss  strategies for how to influence and engage all hospital partners
  • Describe two performance improvement strategies designed to identify and implement change ideas
  • Discuss strategies for survey and regulatory inspection readiness
    • Describe strategies for providing a safe physical environment
    • Discuss the role of employee health and safety
    • Describe two strategies for sustaining improvement and avoiding drift
    • Discuss three strategies for successful CIC certification
