PROJECT AIM:

Cynosure Health was one of five awardees funded as part of the New York State Health Foundation’s Empowering Health Care Consumer Grants. As part of this twenty-month project, Cynosure Health is conducting a comprehensive analysis of New York provider network composition, performance, and accessibility.

RESULTS:

The goal of the project was to provide consumers with the information they need to understand the trade-offs between network size, performance, accessibility, and cost, so that consumers can make informed health care decisions. It consisted of an analysis of plan-product networks using physician group and hospital accessibility and performance data to understand what variation in networks may exist.

APPROACH/PARTNERS:

Cynosure Health produced issue briefs outlining specific recommendations for policymakers, health plans, and other relevant stakeholders on how to improve New Yorkers’ provider networks. We partnered with Truven Health Analytics, as well as consumer health advocacy groups led by Center for Independence of the Disabled New York (CIDNY) to ensure that the project and its recommendations are informed by consumers.
