Jackie Conrad MBA, BS, RN, BSN, RCC and Barb DeBaun MSN, RN, CIC, Cynosure Improvement Advisors and Faculty Members of a Workshop Hosted by the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, focus on quality improvement planning around CAUTI/CLABSI prevention strategies.

In this one-day workshop hosted by the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, in conjunction with the AHRQ Safety Program for ICUs: Preventing CLABSI and CAUTI, participants identified opportunities and strategies to implement unit-based quality improvement projects.  Attendees left with actionable next steps to implement best-practice solutions and move their CAUTI/CLABSI reduction projects forward.

 Activities included: facilitated discussion, an exercise to demonstrate the power of teamwork, an exercise to demonstrate brainstorming, and multi-voting (to generate ‘change’ ideas).

This workshop convened multi-disciplinary teams who are making progress preventing CAUTI and CLABSI but are still in need of additional change ideas.  Numerous concrete and innovative ideas were shared throughout the day. Two Illinois hospitals were featured who shared their challenges and successes (see agenda below for details).
