Sue Murphy

Sue Murphy recently retired after over 32 years as a hospital executive. Most recently, Sue was the Chief Operating Officer of Kaiser Santa Clara Medical Center.  She was appointed to this position in October 2006.  Previously, Sue was the Chief Executive Officer at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, the San Jose area public hospital, serving in that role since 1996.  She began her tenure with SCVMC in 1986 and held a number of key positions including serving as both assistant and associate administrator for professional and support services.  Sue held similar positions at UCSD medical Center, San Clemente Hospital and Ingleside Hospital.

Sue brings hospital operations, leadership and quality improvement experience.  Sue is a founding board member of Cynosure Health. She was the 2002 recipient of both the YWCA “Tribute to Women in Industry” award and the “Women of Achievement” award for public service.  She is a 2013 recipient of the CHA Life Membership Award.

She holds a Masters Degree in Health Administration and a Bachelors Degree in Management Science, both from Duke University.
